In this article I share my thoughts on the new video game announcement from Universal and Saber Games for Jurassic Park Survival. A new single-player first person, action-adventure game set the day after the events of the Jurassic Park film.

This game reveal from The Game Awards on December 7th was completely unexpected, but was met with a lot of excitement and hype from Jurassic Park and dinosaur fans across the world. Universal and Saber Interactive unveiled an announcement trailer for an upcoming first-person Jurassic Park game called Jurassic Park: Survival, coming to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

You can check out the trailer below

The pre-rendered trailer has a high production value and the little snippets of gameplay at the end also look really good. It looks like Universal have pumped a lot of money into this project just by the look and care that has gone into displaying the environments as canon and as close to the Jurassic Park film as possible. I am thrilled about this announcement, I just really hope this is the video game we have all been waiting for.

Jurassic Park fans have been clamouring for a first-person video game set on Isla Nublar ever since the late 1990s. There have been a number of Jurassic Park/Jurassic World video game projects that have been cancelled over the years including some very professionally made Jurassic Park fan games. For many Jurassic Park fans, it seemed like hope was lost and that there was no chance a video game would get made, so this announcement trailer was a very welcome and exciting surprise.

The Jurassic Park: Survival website states the following information as to what this new video game will be about.

Explore Isla Nublar

Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making.

Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story.

Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviours brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.

Adventure through a fully realized Isla Nublar filled with reactive wildlife, dinosaurs, and other surprising threats. From the iconic towering park gates to the Visitor Center and beyond, Jurassic Park comes alive like never before.

Evade Prehistoric Predators

Outsmart, escape, and interact with the film’s iconic dinosaurs. Use your ingenuity through distraction and stealth to navigate intense and unforgettable encounters in a journey to outlast some of the deadliest creatures to ever walk the earth.

Survive the Island

Explore the park and face its dangers. Use all the resources at your disposal to find intelligent solutions to endure the many threats lurking on Isla Nublar.

The biggest and most intriguing piece of information provided by Saber is that the game will feature a fully realized Isla Nublar filled with reactive wildlife and dinosaurs. This to me is pretty major suggesting the game itself will not just be a linear story-driven experience but one where you can explore the remains of the abandoned park in your own time alongside evading the dinosaurs of the island.

Whilst no information has been provided as to the areas and interiors, we will be able to explore, based on the trailer it seems to imply we will be able to explore the interior of the Jurassic Park Visitor Center, something of which I and many Jurassic Park fans have wanted to be able to do in a video game for many years now.

There has been a lot of discussion online, as can be expected with a long-awaited game announcement like this. Many YouTube channels and Jurassic fandom channels have dropped reactions and discussion videos.

Chaos Theorem’s Jack Ewins provided an insightful reaction video on his channel Terrordome 3000. Jack has been involved in the film canon and creation of the viral marketing for the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World franchise for many years, so it is worth checking out his video content for his views on the Jurassic franchise.

Jack De La Mare at Jurassic Outpost also provided a breakdown of the announcement trailer with additional information about Saber Interactives video game history.

Overall, this new video game looks set to be the Jurassic Park game fans have all been waiting for. Hopefully, it won’t be long until more information is provided by Saber regarding game features, locations, and gameplay. The next few years are sure to be an exciting time for Jurassic Park fans. I am very much looking forward to more screenshots and gameplay reveals from Saber in the near future.

The announcement trailer closes out the Jurassic Park 30th anniversary year in a great way giving Jurassic Park fans something to look forward to going forward. You can read my article from June about Jurassic Parks 30th anniversary here.
