In this article I cover the news that the documentary film Why Dinosaurs? is getting a UK tour. You can find out the details about where to see the film below.

The documentary film Why Dinosaurs? by filmmaker Tony Pinto and his son James Pinto covers why people are fascinated by dinosaurs. The documentary focuses on Tony and James travelling the world to interview palaeontologists and dinosaur fanatics to find out the reasons why people love dinosaurs.

Their travels include talking to the creatives behind Jurassic Park and Jurassic World as well as finding out more about dinosaur research and taking part in dinosaur bonebed fieldwork.

You can check out the official trailer for Why Dinosaurs? below.

The official trailer for the Why Dinosaurs? documentary film released on the 3rd October 2023 and has had over 37,000 views on YouTube so far.

The film features a great cast of palaeontologists, science communicators, dinosaur, and fossil fans from across the world.

Up until now the documentary film has only been available to see in the USA where the film also had its premiere. It was recently revealed by palaeontologist Dr Dean Lomax that the documentary film will be doing a UK tour starting Friday 31st May in London at Crystal Palace and ending on the 8th of June at the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival.

You can check out the details for the showings below.

Sadly, I will not be able to catch the Why Dinosaurs? film at the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival but for those who have the chance to see it, it should be a great experience.

I am hoping I will get the chance to see the documentary at some point as the trailer showcases lots of interesting interviews from palaeontologists and dinosaur fans alike. It is really great to see a documentary film focusing on the passions of palaeontology and dinosaur enthusiasts, helping to share more about dinosaurs and prehistory.

Having the film of Why Dinosaurs? end in Lyme Regis at the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival seems like a bittersweet way to end the tour given Lyme’s important palaeontological history and continued impact on palaeontology. I highly recommend checking out the upcoming Lyme Regis Fossil Festival if you have a chance this June, as it will feature an incredible events of talks, workshops, and fossil fun!

I have recently added a new page to the website covering my work for the Jurassic Coast Trust as an Ambassador, so be sure to check that out if you have not already.

You can find out more about my palaeontology research at the research page which details the palaeontology projects I have done before and during my Masters.

For dinosaur palaeobiology information you can check out the dinosaur fact file tab, which displays scientific information on the non-hadrosaurid ornithischian and hadrosaurid specimens analysed in my MSc research. You can also find all my science communication links at the scicomm links page of the website.
